How long will your fire proof or insulated file cabinet protect my important documents in case of a fire?

Provide fire protection greater than file shelving or other office filing systems. Many businesses are careless about their record storage.  Their office filing system consists of only metal file shelving.  This will not protect your documents and media.

The average business fire in the U.S. burns at approximately 800° F for 20 minutes.  While no file cabinets are absolutely fire proof, our insulated cabinets are UL classified to provide protection at temperatures reaching 1700° F during a one-hour test

What are some other mistakes that businesses make when it comes to fire proofing their office filing?

While no file cabinet is fire proof, our media insert provides protection for electronic media. Many businesses assume that an insulated file cabinet will protect their computer media (tapes, disks, CD-Rom, etc.) as well as their office filing records.  While the insulated file cabinet will protect the media better than standard file shelving, standard fire proof cabinets will get too hot on the inside for computer media.

Computer media must remain below 125° F to remain protected.  To use your existing fire proof file cabinets for media, as well as other office filing, the media must be stored in an internal "cooler" or a media file.  If you have questions on which cabinet will work best for your office filing, please call a Filing Store customer service representative at (888) 606-5563.

Office or file shelving will break apart if it falls through a floor during a fire. Are your insulated file cabinets impact resistant as well?

The cabinets rated impact resistant as well as fire resistant will withstand a fall through a floor, up to 30 feet, and will protect the file cabinet from being jarred open by falling beams or debris.
